Elon Musk has launched a 50% layoff of Twitter employees without prior notice…
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who acquired social media Twitter, has begun the layoffs process for employees.
Twitter said in an email to employees on the 3rd (local time) that it will notify them whether they will be fired by 9 a.m. on the 4th.
Twitter has decided to temporarily close its offices and suspend employees’ access to the office during the dismissal process to protect the Twitter system and ensure employee safety.
Earlier, foreign media reported that Musk plans to cut about 3,700 employees, half of Twitter’s 7,500 employees.
Musk fired key executives one after another shortly after the Twitter acquisition, followed by cuts to vice presidents and board members over the weekend.
Musk also ordered the company’s infrastructure sector to save up to $1 billion (W1.4 trillion) in annual costs.
However, there are also concerns that sudden cuts in infrastructure costs at a time when online traffic increases ahead of the U.S. midterm elections could lead to Twitter outages.
At the same time, Musk deleted the holiday from Twitter employees’ calendars and reportedly decided to abolish the remote work system.
Meanwhile, Twitter employees filed a class action suit with a federal court in San Francisco on the 4th (local time), claiming that Musk was firing a mass cleanup without sufficient prior notice.
