Doran Choi Hyun-joon, who recovered his performance, said, “The candidate for the championship is Gen.G.”
“Doran” Choi Hyun-joon, who led Gen.G e-sports to the top of the group, showed strong confidence, saying they were the favorites to win.
Gen.G defeated Royal Never Give Up (RNG) in the second round of Group D of the 2022 LOL World Cup at Madison Square Garden Hulu Theater in New York City on the 17th (Korea time) and advanced to the quarterfinals as the first place in the group. Choi Hyun-joon helped the team win by showing good line-up matches and contribution to a single stroke.
On this day, Gen.G beat RNG twice and confirmed the top spot in the group. Regarding these two games, Choi Hyun-joon said, “I played with the same mind, but I had an accident once in the first game,” adding, “So I focused more on the second game.”
In an earlier interview, “Peanut” Han Wang-ho cited problems such as meta-adaptation as the cause of his defeat in the first game against RNG. Choi also agreed. “In the first game, my form came up less, and I didn’t adjust to the meta properly,” he said. “I’m satisfied because I think I showed a much better performance in today’s game.”
Choi Hyun-joon, who recovered his performance, showed more confidence. Asked where he sees the winning candidate, he also stressed, “I think it’s Gen.G.”
Gen.G, who advanced to the quarterfinals as the top of the group, will face one of Edward Gaming (EDG), Rogue and Damwon Kia. Asked about this, Choi Hyun-joon concluded the interview with confident words, “I don’t care because I think I have to win no matter who I meet.”
